Pine Grove Township, PA – State Police Investigate Overnight I-81 Tractor-Trailer Crashes

Pine Grove Township, PA (July 14, 2026) – Two tractor-trailers overturned in separate overnight crashes that shut down the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 near Pine Grove for several hours, according to Pine Grove Township Fire Rescue.

Emergency crews were dispatched at about 11:20 p.m. on July 14 to mile marker 103.5, just south of the Ravine exit, for a reported crash with possible fire involving two tractor-trailers and possibly a passenger vehicle. Firefighters arrived to find one tractor-trailer overturned and a second still upright. A truck driver had already put out the fire before crews arrived.

No one was trapped, but the wreckage and a large debris field blocked the entire southbound side of the interstate. Emergency personnel treated a patient at the scene and worked to control leaking fluids. An air medical helicopter was initially requested but was canceled once the patient was transported by ground ambulance instead.

As crews worked to clear the first crash, the Schuylkill County Communications Center received a report of a second, separate crash near Exit 104. Responders found another tractor-trailer overturned near the southbound entrance ramp there.

Pine Grove Township Fire Rescue was assisted by Pine Grove EMS, Ravine Fire Company, and mutual aid from Lebanon County. PennDOT and Motter’s Towing worked to clear the roadway, and the interstate reopened to traffic late Wednesday morning.

The Pennsylvania State Police at Jonestown is investigating the crash.
