Duryea, PA (Sept. 27, 2026) – A pedestrian was hurt in a hit-and-run crash on Marcy Street, and police are asking the public for help identifying the driver. The Duryea Police Department said the crash happened around 10:25 p.m. Saturday.
The crash occurred in the 200 block of Marcy Street, near Swetland Street. Police said an adult man was walking in the area when a dark-colored Dodge SUV, possibly a Dodge Durango, approached at a high rate of speed heading toward Main Street.
The SUV sideswiped the man and knocked him to the ground before leaving the area, according to police. He reported back and leg pain and was taken by ambulance for further evaluation.
Officers searched the surrounding area but did not find the vehicle or anyone matching the description. Police noted the area is poorly lit and has no streetlights.
This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
A driver who flees after hitting a pedestrian leaves a short window to identify them, especially in an area without streetlights where witnesses and cameras are harder to come by.
Even when the driver has not been identified, a claim may be available under the victim’s own uninsured motorist coverage. Pennsylvania follows a modified comparative negligence standard, meaning a pedestrian can still recover compensation as long as he was not more than half at fault (42 Pa.C.S. § 7102), and walking in a poorly lit area does not on its own establish fault.
Personal injury claims in Pennsylvania generally must be filed within two years of the crash (42 Pa.C.S. § 5524), which puts the deadline at Sept. 27, 2028 for this incident.
