Scranton, PA (Sept. 23, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash tied up traffic on I-81 South in Scranton on Wednesday afternoon. Police say the vehicles collided in the southbound lanes around 1:20 p.m.
A portion of I-81 South was closed for about an hour after the crash. It has since reopened, but officials say significant delays remain in the area.
The extent of any injuries was not released. Drivers are advised to consider alternate routes while delays continue.
This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
When a collision closes a stretch of interstate and injury details haven’t come out yet, anyone involved is often still sorting through the aftermath at the scene or in an emergency room.
Fault in a multi-vehicle crash isn’t always obvious right away, and Pennsylvania’s comparative negligence law still allows recovery as long as you weren’t more than half responsible for what happened (42 Pa.C.S. § 7102).
Pennsylvania law generally gives you two years from the date of a crash to file a personal injury claim (42 Pa.C.S. § 5524). For this crash, that deadline falls on Sept. 23, 2028.
