Ashley, PA (October 9, 2026) – A man was dragged by a vehicle after a Chevrolet Corvette crashed into two cars stopped at a traffic light, according to Ashley Police. Officers were called to a multi-vehicle crash at State Route 309 and Hazleton Street around 10:20 p.m. on October 9.
Police said the Corvette was traveling south on SR 309 when it hit the two vehicles stopped at the light. A witness alleged that the driver got out of the Corvette, said he could not afford the damages, and tried to leave the scene, police reported.
According to the police release, the witness said he tried to stop the driver from leaving. He was then dragged by the vehicle for a distance before falling onto the road, the release states. Police stated the witness claims that at one point the driver tried to hit him with the vehicle.
The release did not describe injuries to the witness or to anyone in the two vehicles that were hit. Police said the driver abandoned the Corvette on SR 309 south. He was later identified as Carmine Conforto, 28, who is facing charges of aggravated assault and numerous traffic violations.
This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
PennDOT counted 109,515 reportable crashes in Pennsylvania in 2025. It also reports that fatalities involving aggressive driving, which includes running a red light, tailgating, and speeding, have risen 31 percent since 2020.
A criminal case and a civil injury claim are separate. The state brings criminal charges, while a civil claim is how an injured person seeks payment for medical bills, lost income, and pain. A charge is an allegation, and the result of the criminal case does not decide a civil claim.
Insurance can raise its own questions when a driver is accused of intentional conduct. An attorney reviews every policy that may apply and the evidence behind each claim. Pennsylvania law also allows punitive damages in rare cases of outrageous conduct, which an attorney evaluates case by case.
